This reflection is inspired by one of King David’s Psalms. It is the 23rd psalm of the Book of Psalms,”The Lord is my Shepherd. ” after a couple of days contemplating on the character of King David and his life’s events. He was a gentle and humble harp player as well as a courageous and ruthless warrior. I was inspired to write these words in my 40Day retreat.
King David is one of the most well-known figures in Jewish history. He is known by many titles: David the conqueror, David the pious man, David the sweet singer, David the shepherd and David the penitent. Until this very day, he is remembered by a lot everywhere, who still read his Psalms in prayer, in times of joy and sorrow.
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
The Lord is my desire, I shall not seek
The Lord is my home, I shall return
Praise to your name my dear Lord
The First and the Last everywhere and above.
You look upon me and check on my heart,
you touch my soul when times are dark,
you bless me over and over in a constant cycle,
you protect me from evil that hides its face,
you bless my heart with roses and flowers,
you gather me and elevate me, higher,
Who can do that but you, my love?
The way you treat me is not a way of a human soul,
the way you love me is not a love of immortals,
your love is so deep and pure, a drop of it can cure the earth and its inhabitants,
My majestic King,
The God of my father and grand grand father,
The God of Abraham,
The God of the old and The God of the past,
The God of the future and beyond.
What shall a humble servant do my Lord?
what shall I say, do or write?
I live under your hand, please forgive my impurity,
forgive my forgetfulness and my doubts.
I am under your hand, please forgive my smallness,
forgive my expectations and my judgments.
I am under your hand, please forgive my misunderstanding,
forgive my entitlement and vainness.
Your Will shall take its course in me,
I surrender under your Will, I surrender under your Judgement,
I surrender under your Choice.
You are my home and my family, I live in your house, I eat from your food,
and I dress from your clothes.
I am under your hand, for I am nothing but what you make of me,
I am under your hand.
Your strong and mighty Hand is my refuge in life.
